How to Return to Your Life after Bankruptcy
After filing for Bankruptcy, you will have a permanent mark on your credit rating that could prevent you from obtaining loans or credit cards. However, if you are able to prove to creditors that from that point on, you are responsible and would be a reasonable risk for them to invest in, your credit rating can and will improve.
Steps in the Right Direction
The first thing you need to do after filing for bankruptcy is to reestablish and rebuild your credit rating. Before you do anything else, make sure that everything you included in your bankruptcy is listed under it. If not, these huge debts remain on your report, when they really shouldn’t be there.
Try to obtain a secured credit card and pay special attention to how much money you spend. Or, if you can, see if you can become an authorized user of a friend or family member’s card. While your transactions will not affect their credit history, you will in turn obtain the credit history behind that particular card. Make sure that you do not charge more than you have in your bank account! Equally important is that you pay your bills on time. By taking these simple steps, over time your credit score will go up.
Another method for improving your credit rating is to start taking out loans again. Before you do this, start up a savings account and begin transferring money into it. Use this account as collateral for a loan. Make sure you make all payments on time, as with the aforementioned credit card.
When taking the above steps, always make sure that you have the ability to stick to no overspending, paying bills on time, and keeping a keen eye on your monetary status. It is imperative that you do not take measures that might drop your credit score down again.
Things Are Not as Bad as They May Seem
Bankruptcy is not as terrible as it may sound. You have been given an opportunity to start over, learn from your previous mistakes, and never let yourself slip into fiscal turmoil again. While the dark mark on your credit score will remain for quite a while, you have essentially been given a clean slate from which to start over. If you take the proper steps, you can and will bounce back from bankruptcy.
